MK3 CABBY - getting there slowly

Postby Pootz » Fri Nov 03, 2017 10:51 pm

Well after a spell of 4 years away from all things VW due to my health being a total screw up and not letting me drive I'm finally on the mend ( although it will be a long recovery and I'll never be back to 100%)

As from Saturday I'm allowed to drive again as long as it's an automatic so I'm picking this up

Full VW service history, 11 months MOT and the only bit of rust (according to the seller) is non the wing shown in the second to last image

I can't wait as it's been far too long since I've had a VW

Few bits done to it

New rear lights

New headlights and smoked indicators with LED daylight running lights

Not sure I like the running lights so may be changing them for fogs

Next job is timing belt, thermostat housing and rocker gasket as all are well overdue

Other thing I've done is change the door handle as mine broke. I'm currently awaiting a repair kit so I can fit the original one back and have everything on the same key again

Glad that you're back at the wheel, Pootz,

I'd have swapped over the key 'barrel' between handles, or used the good back-end components on the original handle. Unless the fresh handle has a small 'eye' on the barrel, which wouldn't have taken the 'hook' on the linkage.

apologies for a possible duplicate post

Yeah I was going to do that but the replacement handle was totally different to the original one so I'm hoping the repair kit is easy to fit. It arrived today so I'm going to be brave and look at it later

Cheers

Well today has been good...
Timing belt changed, leaky rocker gasket changed and water thing on front of the block had new O ring so.all is good....apart from the hole that is appearing in my sill.
At least I've caught it in time to be saved.

Are you still working on this car, Pootz? I bet it looks cool as heck.
